Religious Education

At St. Philip's, a voluntary aided Catholic primary school, the teaching of Religious Education follows the guidance outlined in the Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools, Colleges and Academies in England and Wales 2023, "To know You more clearly." We currently deliver a rich and high-quality Religious Education curriculum through a combination of schemes, including Come and See, Caritas in Action, and Ten:Ten, alongside other carefully selected resources and external providers. These support us in delivering a curriculum that is both meaningful and engaging for our pupils.

We are committed to supporting every child in developing their full potential in Religious Education. We recognise that our pupils arrive with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and levels of understanding. Each child begins their faith journey at a unique point, and we are dedicated to guiding and nurturing them as they grow in knowledge, belief, and spiritual awareness. Our aim is to help every child grow in understanding, discover their gifts and talents, build positive relationships, develop emotional awareness, nurture a love of learning, and grow in their ability to pray, reflect, make wise choices, and move towards the fullness of life as a child of God.

Religious Education sits at the heart of our school life and curriculum, fully aligned with our Mission Statement. We seek opportunities across all areas of learning to reinforce the values and teachings of our Catholic faith.

In addition, we are currently beginning the transition to the new scheme, Source to Summit, Lighting the Path, Religious Education curriculum. Following a successful pilot of the scheme last year, we are excited to be preparing for a full transition. Our aim is to ensure the programme is adapted to meet the class structures and specific needs of our pupils at St. Philip’s, with the intention of fully embedding it into our teaching and learning by September 2026.
